Founded in 1900, Palermo Calcio has a long history as it is the first football club in the South of Italy and the 7th oldest football club in the country.

Its Stadium Renzo Barbera (name given in honour of the president who successfully led Palermo football club in the 1970s), also known as Stadium “La Favorita”, is the largest sports facility in the Sicilian city. Its inauguration took place in 1932, and was renovated for the 1990 FIFA World Cup.

Today the stadium is owned by the municipality of Palermo, and its capacity is of 36,349 seats (5,934 of which are part of the covered grandstand), arranged on two rings.
