Until recently, the sport sector was lagging behind in terms of proactive management of environmental impacts if compared to other economic sectors; as a result, environmental aspects were only partially managed within sport organizations and events. However, this situation is rapidly changing as environmental protection is taking on an increasingly important spot in the football agenda, at events such as Euro 2020 and Qatar 2022.

This report summarises the results of an online survey, targeting managers of football organisations (both clubs and stadium owners) in 11 European countries. It aimed at investigating the extent of adoption of environmental practices (both at operational and governance levels) among football organizations. It also investigated the organizational capabilities and drivers of environmental proactivity in football, the expected benefits of environmental management, and stakeholder engagement.
